During a recent conversation with a friend about all of the various desserts we crave each fall, I was taken aback when she said “Snickerdoodles.” Not because they aren’t delicious – they are! But they should not be reserved only for October-December baking.
Repeat after me: Snickerdoodles are delicious and appropriate every day of the year.
My go-to Snickerdoodles recipe is from Life, Love and Sugar. Made with cream of tartar, they are chewy, pillowy and perfectly coated in cinnamon-sugar. When you make them with a 1 Tablespoon scoop, you can get around 48 cookies from a single batch. I used a larger scoop and got approximately half, which was the perfect amount for us and to drop off on the porches of various friends.
They are easy to make and literally everybody loves them! My earliest memories of Snickerdoodles are at the small Mennonite school I attended from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. They made large cookies, sold them for cheap, and I begged for one every time we were there for a school function, even before I was enrolled as a student. To say I was spoiled by the great food served in that cafeteria is an understatement.
If you’re hungry for that cinnamon-sugar combination, but want something that isn’t another cookie, Life, Love and Sugar has several Snickerdoodle-inspired recipes! I first started following her years ago for her cakes, and have continued to be impressed and inspired by her baked goods ever since. I have a feeling you will be, too.
Check out her various recipes, and let me know if there is another one you’d like me to highlight in the future!
