The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn

If you are someone who enjoys thriller movies, I highly recommend you read The Woman in the Window before it is released in theaters in the future.

This dark, twisted book by A.J. Finn was published in January 2018, and the following year it was announced it would be coming to the big screen, with Amy Adams as the main character, Anna Fox. While the movie release is currently on hold due to coronavirus concerns, I am eagerly waiting to see it, because the book itself is that good. I often prefer comedy and dramas on the big screen, but will make the exception to watch The Woman in the Window.

Goodreads graphic.

Anna is agoraphobic and lives alone in her New York City home, spending her days communicating with others through an online support group, spying on her neighbors and drinking copious amounts of wine.

Not long after Alastair and Jane Russell, along with their teen son, Ethan, move onto her street, she witnesses a terrifying event through the blinds. What follows are days of being told everything is not as it seems, and she questions herself, as she second guesses what is real, and what is a figment of her imagination. While she readily admits she has some mental health issues, she is steadfast in her understanding of what she saw that fateful night, and pushes back against her limitations to make sure the truth is brought to light. This thriller novel underscores that nobody really knows for sure what goes on behind closed doors – including your own.

In 2020, as most of the world has been in isolation from the outside world, and spending time staring at the windows, it is chilling to imagine how you would react if in Anna’s situation, as she reconciles with her past, present, and the future. This novel will give you Hitchcock vibes, reminiscent of the old movies the main character frequently watches.

If you enjoy page turner, suspenseful books, be sure to read The Woman in the Window before it is released in theaters. Grab a glass of wine and dessert as you devour this book.

Four stars. Finn won the Goodreads Choice Award for Mystery & Thriller and for Debut Author (2018) with this book, and became a New York Times Bestselling Author.

Hi, I'm Anna! A few things to know about me: I'm a big fan of reading, writing, baking and eating desserts. Sweet On Smith started out in 2017 as a way to bake for others, while raising money to help various hurricane relief efforts, and area nonprofits. While that aspect is currently on pause, I wanted a space to share my good reads and sweet treat recommendations with you.
